Thomas A. Broz

ASCE Member Since 1972

Thomas A. Broz, PE, SE, F.ASCE was born in Chicago, Illinois and currently resides in Orange, California.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1972, and his MSCE from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1973. His fields of specialty include Structural Engineering, Project Management and Construction Management.


Mr. Broz is currently employed at VA Consulting as the Vice President of Program and Construction Management Services.  His past employers include Bechtel Corporation, Moffat & Nichol Engineers, DMJM (now AECOM), ABS Consulting and Willdan Engineering.  His most gratifying positions was working on public projects and the renovation of bridges and buildings the last 14 years.  His most significant career achievement was being the recipient of the Civil Engineering Alumni Association of the Young Alumnus Achievement Award (1984) and the Distinguished Alumnus Award (2014) from the University of Illinois.


Mr. Broz’s other significant career achievements include:


  • ASCE LA and Zone IV Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award for Professional Achievement (1980)

  • ASCE LA Energy Technical Group Outstanding Young Engineer in Energy Award (1984)

  • Western Council of Construction Consumers Associate Member of the Year Award (2005 & 2009)

  • Distinguished Service Award (2011)

  • ASCE OC Branch Civil Engineer of the Year Award (2011)

  • Orange County Engineering Council Distinguished Engineering Merit Award (2012)


His other significant professional office/positions held and organizations include:


  • ASCE LA Energy Technical Group Chairman (1977 & 1981), Secretary (1978), Treasurer (1979) and Vice-Chairman (1980)

  • ASCE National Energy Division Executive Committee (1982-1992)

  • University of Notre Dame Civil Engineering Department Alumni Advisory Group (1985-2000)

  • Chairman Western Council of Construction Consumers Distinguished Project Awards Committee (2002-2014)

  • ASCE OC Branch Practitioner Advisor – CSU Fullerton ASCE Student Chapter (2012-2014)

Being married to his wife, Colleen of 42 years and having a miracle child, Timothy after 22 years of marriage was his most significant lifetime achievement.
