Hugh Halderman

Hugh Halderman, PE was president of the Orange County Branch from October 1974 to September 1975.  For forty years Hugh Halderman was a leader among civil engineers in Orange County, California.  He was born on October 10. 1922 in Los Angeles and passed away in Santa Ana. California on June 12. 1999.  Hugh was a graduate of New Mexico Military Academy and Stanford University.  He went to work for Gordon Jennings in Los Angeles and soon formed Jennings Halderman Hood in Santa Ana. He was the chief executive officer. The firm later was known as JHH Consultants. Tens of thousands of people live in housing developments that were conceived and designed by his firm.  He was a Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was a past president of the The Southern California Association of Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors and past president and life director of the California Council of Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors.  He received an award for "Outstanding Contributions to the Profession of Civil Engineering and Land Surveying" from the Title Insurance and Trust Company.  Concurrently with the above, Hugh served as president of the South Sunrise Little league and tutored many high school and college students in mathematics.  He employed many college students part time in his business.  Clifford Hood was one of those students who later became a partner in Jennings Halderman Hood.  Hugh served on a committee for Project 21, a plan for Orange County for the 21st Century and on the Orange County Grading Appeals Board.  In World War II he served as an Army, Lieutenant and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
