About the event
Seminar Summary
This half-day seminar familiarizes local chapter members with ground improvement (GI) practice in Southern California and the state-level review and acceptance process for projects under the jurisdiction of the Division of the State Architect (DSA) and the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI). Chase White of the California Geological Survey (CGS) will open with an overview of common GI methods and then present the keynote on CGS review and acceptance of ground improvement for building structures. Supporting presentations from Geopier and Keller will cover the design-build delivery of the two most common GI methods in Southern California — Rammed Aggregate Piers and Deep Soil Mixing — including a recently constructed liquefaction-mitigation project that went through CGS review. The morning concludes with a panel discussion / Q&A featuring all speakers, joined by Ron LaPlante of DSA, followed by lunch and informal networking.
