Flood Management Project

East Garden Grove - Wintersburg Channel

Orange County Public Works

This $95.5M Design-Build Channel Improvement Project is located within the Westminster Watershed, the largest remaining floodplain in the County of Orange. The Project consists of improving approximately 1 mile of channel to current Orange County Flood Control District design standards to provide 100-year flood protection and seismic resiliency with the ultimate program goal to remove hundreds of residents and businesses from the 100-year floodplain. The channel improvements included increasing the hydraulic conveyance of this channel reach by installing vertical steel sheet pile walls and removing the resultant soil wedge of the existing earthen, trapezoidal channel. The Project is located in a developed area of Huntington Beach that outlets to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, layering the complexities of site access, construction staging, and constructability.
