By: Jersusalem Verano

On Friday December 5, 2014 the ASCE Student Chapter of CSU Long Beach and the ASCE YMFs from Orange, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino / Riverside County co-hosted a joint Broomballing on Ice! event. The event took place between 10 and 12PM at the Lakewood Ice rink, in Lakewood, CA. For those unfamiliar with Broomballing, it is essentially hockey on ice but with tennis shoes, broom like sticks, and a bright orange, coconut sized ball for a puck. Overall, the event was a lot of fun as over 50 engineering students and professionals took to the ice. Yes, 50 engineering students and professionals running around with broom sticks, chasing after 3 orange coconuts while trying to score on the opposing team’s goal. Doesn’t that sound delightful? Of course, who won is up for dispute but everyone that joined won. In general, there was a smile on every face. The event had a grea turn out with a mix of students and professionals. And the consensus was to do this again. Be sure to join the next Broomballing on Ice event!
