In Memoriam

William F. Hoey, AICP, PE September 25, 1930 - October 10, 2010


Bill Hoey lost his 2-year battle with prostate cancer on October 10, 2010. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island and received his Bachelor of Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1952 followed by a Masters in City Planning from Harvard University in 1958.  Starting his career as a young engineer, Bill worked for Wilbur Smith and Associates from 1962 to1979.  He then taught at California Poly Pomona from1979-1997, mainly in the Civil Engineering Department where he retired as “Professor Emeritus” but continued teaching part-time from 1997 to 1999.  His 30 years’ experience in transportation and transportation engineering was mainly related to public transportation systems.  His additional professional activities included officer for the Orange County Branch of American Society of Civil Engineers from 1988 to 1992 and Branch President from 1991 to 1992.  He was also a member of the Orange County Historical Commission from 1986 to 1999.  In retirement he continued to be active in the community as a member of the Roseville, California City Transportation Commission until his death.  His wife Anita survives Bill. A private memorial was held for family members.
