ASCE OC Branch Holiday Mixer / Toys for Tots
To close out the year, ASCE OC Branch hosted its inaugural social mixer event at Bistango Restaurant in Irvine on Thursday, December 18th. ASCE members and guests enjoyed appetizers and beverages while they mingled in a relaxed environment in a private area of the venue. ASCE Life Members, Younger Members, and everyone in between were present to learn more about what ASCE OC will offer to its membership in 2015.
Representatives from Engineers Without Borders, Orange County (EWB-OC) and HomeAid were also present to talk about future community service projects that ASCE OC members could take part in. Greg Wenk, ASCE Liaison for EWB-OC, described how EWB-OC and ASCE plan to embark on a project at the San Diego Safari Park to upgrade existing bridges and other facilities to meet ADA compliance. The goal is to develop a growing partnership not only with San Diego Safari Park, but also with EWB and ASCE groups in the San Diego area.
Evan Miles, Project Manager with HomeAid also shared ideas with ASCE about future projects to improve facilities around existing group homes that provide shelter to individuals and families in need. The homes are scattered throughout Orange County and although some are relatively new, others need maintenance or have drainage issues that need attention. ASCE OC and HomeAid look forward to teaming up to provide design and assistance in tackling these projects.
To celebrate the holidays, attendees were asked to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Toys-4-Tots, a nationwide toy drive. Several toys were collected at the holiday social mixer and were donated to the nearby toy drive location. A big “Thank You” to all the attendees who participated in Toys-4-Tots!
ASCE OC Branch would also like to provide special thanks to CBelow for their generous Appetizer Sponsorship.
