ASCE OC Community Service - 2021 Toy Drive
By Kayla Kilgo, PhD, PE, ENV SP | Community Service Committee
During this past holiday season, ASCE OC partnered with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) to support their program SONRIE (Support of Orphanages in Need through Resources, Innovation, and Empowerment) to collect and deliver toys to Ojos Negros, Mexico. SONRIE works with orphanages and communities in need in Mexico to help improve living conditions and engage kids in STEM activities.
Toys were collected at the Annual History & Heritage Student Scholarship Night and by the Cal State Fullerton ASCE student group. Monetary donations were also received through Eventbrite and used to purchase toys. The Community Service Committee would like to thank everyone who donated toys and for the monetary donations. In total, over 70 toys were collected and donated by ASCE OC!
The toys were distributed during the 4th Annual Posada held on December 11th, 2021, at the community center in Ojos Negros. During the event, blankets, clothing, and toys were distributed along with tamales and dessert. The toys were much appreciated, and we thank you again for your donations!
