ASCE OC Branch - Member Appreciation Picnic
By Clint Isa, PE | ASCE OC Branch Past-President
On October 30, 2021, the ASCE-Orange County Branch and Younger Member Forum (YMF) carved out some time between COVID spikes to show our appreciation for the volunteers that have helped keep us so successful during the pandemic. More than 30 of our volunteers, along with some friends and family, came together to catch up, share tacos catered by The Chill Taco, and enjoy what turned out to be a beautiful autumn day. This was the first time I had seen many of our volunteers in more than a year, so it was great to reconnect in person and present thank-you gifts that included ASCE-branded polo shirts, pull-overs, and neck gaiters. With the event hosted the day before Halloween, we encouraged those that attended to come dressed in their best costume and even handed out a few gift cards to our favorites.
The event also gave everyone an opportunity to check out the recently renovated Cherry Park in Lake Forest, which received the ASCE OC Branch’s ADA Improvement Project of the Year in 2021. The project was recognized for its exceptional park and recreation design and delivery, and for turning this universally accessible playground from concept to reality. Cherry Park is the City of Lake Forest's second universally accessible playground, has 45 accessible play features, and welcomes people of all ages, genders, and abilities.
On behalf of the ASCE OC Branch and YMF, I want to take another opportunity to thank the more than 100 volunteers that make us the award-winning branch that we are; we simply could not do this without you. A special thanks also goes out to Melissa Hilsabeck (YMF Past-President) for helping me organize the event, to Tom Broz for procuring our new Branch polo shirts, and to Tom’s wife, Colleen, for sharing her photos of the event. We are eagerly looking forward to the end of the pandemic so we can host bigger and better versions of this event in the future. Until then, please stay safe and be well.
