Summer Networking Socials
Throughout the year, ASCE OC YMF hosts many activities and networking social events that offer an opportunity to share food and drink with other young engineers in Orange County. This summer, we had two networking social events in July and September. More »
Port of Long Beach Harbor Cruise
On a wonderfully sunny day in July, OC YMF and the Metropolitan LA Branch jointly hosted a Port of Long Beach harbor cruise. Approximately 70 ASCE members and their families, along with the general public, coasted through the Long Beach Harbor into the Port’s channels. The tour got up close and personal with the crane rail operators at Pier E in Middle Harbor which is part of the Port’s Capital Improvement Program. More »

Now Accepting Applications for 2019-2020 Mentorship Program!
Applications for the 2019-2020 Mentorship Program are now being accepted! ASCE OC hosts an annual Mentorship Program for the encouragement and development of its members and our future leaders. The program will pair young professionals (protégés) with an experienced civil engineer (mentor) in the local OC Branch. More »
Mentorship Program Informal Event at Union Market
A lively discussion and a valuable exchange of ideas took place at the Mentorship Program Mid-Year Check-In Event on April 10, 2019 at the PACE facilities in Fountain Valley. Twenty-five mentors, protégés, and Mentorship Committee members participated in the evening activities. More »

Invasive Plants Removal and Fire Resiliency
Orange County parks are in need of a major restoration effort because of the damages done by the recent fire. ASCE OC’s Sustainability Committee along with their Younger Member Forum (YMF), together organized an invasive plants removal and hike event in Santiago Oaks Regional Park on Saturday, June 1. More »
2019 Speaker Series
The 2019 ASCE OC YMF Speaker Series was held at HDR’s Irvine office, on four consecutive Tuesdays, starting on April 30th. The theme of the 2019 Series was “The Future-Proof Engineer: Adapt and Thrive In Change." These sessions aimed to “future-proof” young professionals' careers with the experience and knowledge of the guest panel members. They provided invaluable insights and lessons on how to successfully shape your ideal career while navigating a changing industry. More »
St. Francis Dam Tour
On April 27, 2019, Kimo Look of the ASCE Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch hosted an historical walking tour of the dam disaster site. His passion for the stories and lessons was infectious; he wanted to help attendees understand the context of the disaster in the decades leading up to the collapse and the effects the dam has on our lives and careers to this day. Building Science Tech Talk and Lab Tour
I must admit, I feel a twinge of trepidation when asked what I do for a living. I work in the growing field of Building Science, a discipline that really is as broad as it sounds. When asked, I usually explain that Building Science is the practical application of physics and scientific testing to improve the structures we build and the environments inside them. More »
Saint Patrick's Day Bar Crawl
In March, OC YMF hosted one of their quarterly bar crawls in Huntington Beach. Since all of the bar crawls must have a theme, this bar crawl, or pub crawl, celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day. Although there was no rainbows, many of us made a pot of gold’s worth of friendships and new acquaintances. More »

Personal Finance Workshop Was a Hit
Those in our Younger Members Forum have come of age in the wake of the financial crisis. In contrast to the angsty basement-dwelling stereotype of millennials, the attendees of the Personal Finance Workshop, put on by the OC YMF on December 11th, 2018, were eager to learn how to navigate the often volatile waters of the post-recession economy. A perfect night on Newport Harbor! ASCE Orange County welcomed over 50 Board Members, Committee Chairs, Institute Chairs and General Members to attend a Holiday Lights Cruise on December 4th in appreciation and celebration of a successful year. More »

Ugly Sweater Holiday Bar Crawl
It was a chilly night in California when a group of ASCE OC YMF members congregated at Bootlegger’s in Downtown Fullerton. Tension was in the air as Christmas loomed around the corner, deadlines were due, and finals had just begun to wrap up for some college students. More »
Annual Wine Trip 2018
The 2018 YMF Wine Trip in Temecula was a day filled with memories, socializing, and, of course, wine tasting. Although it was sad to see the day end, the attendees gained new memories, new friends and an excitement for next year’s trip! More »
