2015 History & Heritage / Student Night
By: Gidti Ludesirishoti, Elizabeth Ruedas On Thursday November 19, 2015 ASCE Orange County Branch hosted the annual History and Heritage / Student Night. This year’s event was hosted at a new venue, the Heritage Museum of Orange County, home of Santa Ana’s first Engineer, Hiram Clay Kellogg. The 192 experienced professionals, younger members, and students had the opportunity to tour the Kellogg House during the event to explore the museum and previous home of Hiram Clay Kellogg. More »

Student Days
By Amber Falk, Gary Gilbert, Chloe Gharios, Jesus Velazquez, and Cody Dodge Thirty civil engineering students from universities across the U.S. were given the unique challenge of competing in teams to produce the best bid for a city’s request for proposal (RFP) to construct new seawalls as part of the ASCE/Construction Institute (CI)’s Student Days competition in Costa Mesa, California, July 31-August 4. Each year students are selected through a competitive application process to participate, bringing top engineering students from across the country together to work in teams with students they’ve never met before on a “real-life” construction challenge. This year three students were selected from our local universities – two from Cal State Fullerton and one from Cal State Long Beach. More »

Applying Lessons Learned From OC YMF
By: Gary Gilbert, P.E., G.E. The ASCE OC Younger Member Forum (YMF) has been very successful in building a group that has amazing accomplishments and their members have fun being active. The OC Branch board would like to build upon that successful approach with all of our members. Over the last four years, the OC Branch has been working with the OC YMF to combine some key committees so that younger and experienced members can work together to grow existing successful programs. The committees that are shared by OC Branch and OC YMF are the K-12 Outreach, Community Service, and University Outreach committees. More »

ASCE OC YMF– Downtown Los Angeles Photo-Hunt with OC Universities

Pacific Southwest Conference 2015
By Ryan Hankes It was an eventful three days at the University of Arizona starting on April 9th. A total of 18 schools, coming from as far as Hawaii, competed to be the top ASCE chapter. The 19 competitions were engineering based in all types of fields, as well as sporting events. The atmosphere in the area was that compared to any sporting event, with students cheering on their fellow ASCE members in the many competitions and events. Each competition was given a point value based on how the respective schools placed in the events, the total of these events resulted in overall placing of the schools. More »

Titan Engineers Are Two-Time National Champs
Cal State Fullerton student engineers captured the first place Geo-Challenge trophy in the national "Geo-wall" competition March 17-18 in San Antonio, Texas. Titans finished ahead of the University of Texas at Arlington (second), and the University of Arkansas (third), making this their second consecutive win in the annual competition run by the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers More »
