On September 4, 2010, Darfield Earthquake with a 7.1 magnitude shook city of Christchurch (City) in New Zealand. The earthquake epicenter was approximately 40 miles west of the City. The quake caused widespread damage, several power outages, and limited liquefaction around the rivers and waterways. City of Christchurch was in a relatively seismically quiet zone of New Zealand, which is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, prior to the recent activities. More »
