History and Heritage - Vacation on Galveston Bay
In June 2014 Carl and Donna Nelson visited civil engineer friends who live at a bayside residence. They had the opportunity for a waterside tour of Galveston Bay and share with the ASCE OC membership a historical accounting of the area and a civil engineers perspective of the vacation. More »
The Orange County Branch History & Heritage Committee
Since ASCE established the History and Heritage Committee at the National level in 1964, and subsequently provided Guidelines for History and Heritage Commitees to be formed at the State and Local levels, there has been a focus within the Society to "encourage recognition of historic engineering achievements around the world; enable engineers to interact and learn from each other; and demonstrate the interrelatedness of different segments of the profession." The Los Angeles Section established their History and Heritage Committee in the 1960's and began recognizing Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks (HCEL's) within the Section in 1969. The Orange County Branch followed in the late 1970's with the establishment of its own History and Heritage Committee. More »
History and Heritage - In Memoriam - Ronald E. Wolford, P.E.
Ronald (Ron) E. Wolford was born on December 17, 1926, in Delano, CA, and passed away at his home in Irvine, CA, on his 87th birthday, December 17, 2013. Mr. Wolford was the 20th President of the ASCE Orange County Branch and served in that position in 1971 - 1972. During his many years as a member of ASCE he also served as Chairman of various committees and achieved Life Member and Fellow status. More »
