PE Booth, Happy Hour and Social Event December 2017

Local Member Hosts Pump It Up For Platelets 5K Raises $10,000

Melissa Hilsabeck has been involved in OC YMF for about two years with her main involvement being the Mentorship Co-Chair for the year of 2016-2017. This fantastic event was able to raise over $10,000 this year! Ronald McDonald House

By Andrew Lam Every year, ASCE OC YMF volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House, where we would prepare and serve food to the families who reside there. In a brief summary about the organization, Ronald McDonald House in Southern California provides cost-free lodging support to children and families whose members are currently in care at the nearby hospital. Quite often, groups of volunteers sign up to prepare and serve food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. More »

In Memoriam Donald D. Talley 1935-2017

Don will be most remembered by his surviving spouse, children, family members and friends as a loving, kind and generous man.  His gentle spirit and quick wit made him easy to love.  As some of his engineering friends put it, “Don was a great guy and lived his faith”; “he was one of the Good guys.”  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Volunteering at the McPherson Magnet School Science Fair

By Nathan Forrest, P.E. On Monday, February 13th, Josue Vaglienty and I had the opportunity to volunteer to help judge students' science projects at the McPherson Magnet School science fair. We learned about this opportunity and need through the ASCE OC K-12 Outreach Committee. This committee works hard to allow civil engineering professionals to have a classroom presence in Orange County as well as helping educators to present engineering concepts in their classrooms.  More »

ASCE OC and EWB Members Partner for Professionals for San Diego Zoo Safari Park

By Jason Goff, PE ASCE Orange County Chapter (ASCE-OC) and EWB-Orange County Professionals Chapter (EWB-OC) formed a partnership to modify five existing bridges at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.  Two of the bridges, known as the Tiger Bridge and Gorilla Bridge and multi-span bridges of the abandoned monorail system; the remainder of the bridges are 50 foot long single span bridges.  The bridges will be retrofitted with guardrails for public/pedestrian use to provide access to other parts of the park not previously accessible to the public.  Click to hear about the latest project progress.
