Day of Making at Hawthorne High School of Manufacturing and Engineering

This was an opportunity for local students to explore the various professions in the area related to the STEM field. Applying Lessons Learned From OC YMF

The OC Branch board would like to build upon that successful approach with all of our members. Over the last four years, the OC Branch has been working with the OC YMF to combine some key committees so that younger and experienced members can work together to grow existing successful programs. The committees that are shared by OC Branch and OC YMF are the K-12 Outreach, Community Service, and University Outreach committees. More »
HomeAid Sorting Day Event - Helping Homeless Families in Orange County

Engineers Helping Communities
After the recent events in Nepal, the first instinct for some people is to jump on a plane and help out where ever needed. However, this can actually increase the problems in an area affect by a major disaster, because of lack of housing, food, and services. NPR has an excellent story that summarizes how best to help after a natural disaster. There is a multistage process to help communities. The first part is for local and international emergency services to assist the injured. A later phase where engineers can help is to rebuild the infrastructure that was lost, including roads to provide supplies and clean drinking water. More »

Small Projects, Big Impact: Interest Builds in CE Corps
CE Corps is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that matches engineers and/or engineering teams in the U.S. who would like to do some pro bono work, with underserved communities who do not have the resources to access engineering services in a traditional fee-for-service manner. The CE Corps was formed through a partnership among ASCE, Engineers Without Borders–USA (EWB-USA), and AWWA (American Water Works Association). More »
Volunteer at St. John's Episcopal School's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Day
New ASCE OC Board of Directors Secretary, Greg Henk, PE, was an Engineer Volunteer at St. John's Episcopal School's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Day on March 5th. The elementary school age students prepared for the day with weeks of classroom work where they prepared plans and materials for the day. There were many projects geared for the appropriate age groups. More »

HomeAid is Looking for Assistance from Civil Engineers
The ASCE OC Branch is looking for opportunities to partner with HomeAid Orange County (HomeAid OC). HomeAid OC was founded 25 years ago by leaders in the building industry. There are now 15 HomeAid chapters nationally, and the movement continues to grow and increase in impact. HomeAid exists to end homelessness. Since its inception, HomeAid OC has created 50 shelters serving men, women and children experiencing homelessness. We achieve this through Advocacy, Development, and Service.
