Construction Institute (CI)

The Construction Institute Orange County Chapter allows our members to interact with other professionals in the construction industry whom practice civil engineering.  We regularly send active Orange County Branch members to CI Congresses held on a annual bases across the country.  We hope the Orange County Branch members will learn new ideas and find interesting speaker topics that we can bring back to our local branch members.  CI OC periodically holds joint events with the Orange County Branch to cover subjects related to the construction industry during branch general meetings.  The Orange County Branch and the CI Orange County Chapter work together to provide continuing educations events that are relevant CI members. We hope you will come out and participate in our institute and work with us to build a strong organization.

Interactive series that takes you though various construction aspects and milestones of a project from conception to completion while bridging the gap from design to construction. 


Women in Construction Week

WIC Week is celebrated during the first full week in March to honor the men and women how have helped pave the way for women in the sonstruction industry as well as highlight the available opportunities for women in the office and in the field. We have hosted three annual Women in Construction event, two of which have been week long events. We look forward to celebrating with you in March! Inflation and Shortage Supply Impacts

We have all been witnessing price inflation, whether it is at the gas station or at the grocery store. Both inflation and material shortage have become part of our design considerations when we select and specify materials for our projects.  The approach has been further emphasized over the last couple of years: the Architectural Engineering and Construction (AEC) community should initiate design and construction projects with a thorough understanding of material availability, fabrication, delivery lead time, projected construction index price, and an evaluation of equivalent alternatives.

Sudamericana Water Conservation

Last month, I traveled to Chile for my brother’s wedding and took the opportunity to wander in Patagonia, the Colchagua Valley (wine country), Santiago, and a few other places. I don’t know if the pattern is common across my peers, but as for myself, travels are generally punctuated by a constant evaluation of the local infrastructure, design details, construction means and methods, and an assessment of the infrastructure challenges that each region faces.

ASCE OC Construction Institute - 2021 Women in Construction Week

Women in Construction (WIC) week is nationally celebrated the first full week of March. With the success of our 2020 “The Strength of Women in Construction” event, the OC Construction Institute hosted an entire week of virtual events to celebrate women in the industry. The events included honoring significant women in STEM history, breaking down and navigating difficult conversations, professional leadership coaching, a Bluebeam tutorial, and a couple of self-care-centric events.
