Kyra currently works as a student engineer for the Port of Los Angeles and provides support to the construction manager in data entry, reviewing plans and specifications. As well as doing material testing in the field and lab to ensure quality standards. Before working for POLA she worked as an intern at JMH Engineering and Construction where she worked on drawing estimates, filling RFI’s, creating proposals.

Comments:

I have known Kyra since she was a freshman because she was the first in her class to get involved with the chapter. She has taken increasingly important roles every year and has excelled at them. In my last year of undergrad, I saw Kyra take on the role of conference chair and concrete canoe project manager all while balancing the workload of pursuing two bachelor degrees. She did not only make every deadline that was set she led our chapter to a higher placing than the year prior. Kyra has been an amazing president this past year and I don’t believe that there is anyone more deserving of this award than her.

Contribution to the Profession:

2019-2020: Aesthetic Captain
2019-2020: Rowing Captain
2019-2020: ASCE CSULB Webmaster

2021-2020: ASCE CSULB President

Civic:

Kyra tan has planned and hosted ASCE CSULB Dream Big: K-12 Civil Engineering Outreach Event that was held this past December. K-12 students around the area were brought to CSULB to be taught about civil engineering and go through various workshops. Kyra also worked as a skit writer with CSULB PCN every year to help put on a show to educate people about Filipino culture. Outside of school and engineering, she volunteers at her church by playing piano for every Sunday Service and works with her choir to collect money and food donations to deliver to a homeless shelter every third Saturday of the month.

Suggested Award Summary:

Kyra Tan is a dedicated fourth-year Civil Engineering and Mathematics student at California State University, Long Beach with an emphasis in construction management. She is currently a Student Engineer with the Port of Los Angeles and the Co-President of the CSULB student Chapter. Also actively involved in other engineering and cultural societies. She is passionate about giving back to her community and hopes to build a sustainable home for the least fortunate in the future. Outside of engineering Kyra can be found taking care of planets and streaming on twitch.
