The ASCE Orange County Branch/Younger Member Forum 2013 Golf Tournament took place this past August 2, 2013 at the Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, Calif. Special ASCE OC Branch 60th Anniversary commemorative polo shirts were given to the players. To end the day, the banquet and awards ceremony featured some exciting raffle prizes.
This article spotlights ASCE OC Younger Member Taki Chrysovergis. Taki recently published his thesis, "Younger Members Thesis on Effects of Temperature and Moisture on Interface Shear Strength of Texture Geomembrane and Geosynthetic Clay Liners", through Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he graduated.
Infrastructure is an essential component of national competitiveness and social well-being. Designing and delivering infrastructure systems that truly contribute to sustainability throughout their service life is the theme of this conference. The International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI) 2014 will focus on sustainability in the built environment, presenting relevant engineering research, demonstrations and applications that contribute to competitiveness and well-being. UCI ASCE student chapter, in conjunction with several other Civil Engineering Student Chapters, is hosting the first annual Civil and Environmental Engineering Career Fair on October 10, 2013, between 11 am and 3pm, in Pacific Ballroom C of UC Irvine's Student Center.

There is no way to completely insulate yourself or your business from becoming involved in litigation. However, ther are steps an engineering firm can, and should, employ during contract negotiations to negotiate beneficial provisions into the project services agreement that can limit exposure and liability should a lawsuit be filed. This article will inform the reader on a few contract provisions to consider during negotiations with a client.
