Secretary's Column - Back to School

September is the traditional month for going back to school.  Our children return to Elementary School, Junior High School, High School and, for our young adults, it is time for college! That first day in a new school at a higher level of schooling is always an exciting time with thoughts of the new challenges, fun and education that will follow.  But, in addition to sending our children back to school, as Civil Engineers, we have an obligation to our profession to continue our own education. When was the last time you took a continuing education class or attended a technical seminar?  You can still experience the excitement of learning new things, just as when you were a kid, even as an adult with professional learning. To be a more effective Civil Engineer, learning should be on a continuum, and you should seek opportunities to increase both your technical knowledge and your skills and understanding in related fields of study.
