On March 13, 2012, Mr. Matthew Cugini, PE, PMP, Caltrans District 12 Branch Chief, and Ms. Nooshin Yoosefi, MSCE, PE, PMP, Caltrans District 12 Senior Transportation Engineer and Project Manager, presented the"I-5/ SR74 Interchange Reconstruction Project," to over 70 transportation professionals at the UCI University Club. In their PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Cugini and Ms. Yoosefi covered the project's challenges and opportunities, including scoping, planning and design, funding, geometrics, right of way acquisition, and environmental and aesthetics issues/ impacts. Their presentation also provided a detailed outline and multiple renderings of the planned construction staging and traffic handling approach, which will govern the overall project timing and local impact, due to the incredible complexity of the staging of the work. The in depth analysis and planning for the construction component of the work, through District 12, will help reduce the expected travel delays through this critical interchange, as it continues to serve both local and through motorists during reconstruction, as well as pedestrians and bicyclists. A spirited and thorough question and answer session followed the presentation, confirming the audience's interest in the information provided. Upon completion of the work, the interchange will greatly alleviate travel delay through the area, and safely serve users of this facility for many years to come.
