ASCE OC – Annual Achievement Award

OC Branch President Ziad Mazboudi presents Ms. Christine Truong of CSULB with the ASCE Achievement Award

Christine Truong is this year’s ASCE Annual Achievement Award recipient. As a student at California State University of Long Beach, Christine Truong began her involvement with the ASCE student chapter in her first year as a civil engineering student.  Since then she has demonstrated a strong sense of leadership by participating in the concrete canoe row team in the 2009-2010 school year and as secretary of her ASCE student chapter in the 2010-2011 school year.  Not only has she been active within her own ASCE student chapter, she has also shown enthusiasm in other engineering associations.  She has served as an Associated Engineering Student Body Senator at Cal State Long Beach.  During her tenure as President of the Engineers Without Borders Student Chapter, the association has seen an increase in membership due to Christine’s outreach efforts that have resulted in a truly multidisciplinary group of students.

It is clear that Christine is passionate about civil engineering. Formerly a student of classical art and architecture, her curiosity in civil engineering was piqued as she studied the ancient structures and technological innovations of Greece.  She now appreciates that civil engineering can provide a route to success for an individual, a community, and a civilization.  She is determined in her coursework with a dedication superseding that of her peers and she holds the esteem of her professors.  Her work discipline and aspirations will surely lead her to a successful and fulfilling future in the field of civil engineering.  It is with great pleasure that the Orange County Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers presents this year’s Annual Achievement Award and a $1,500 scholarship to Ms. Christine Truong.
