National Engineers’ Week kicked off on Monday, February 17th with the Commemorative Plaque Dedication Ceremony to celebrate ASCE’s 150th anniversary, Orange County Branch’s 50th Anniversary, and California State University, Long Beach’s Student Chapter of ASCE.
Students, alumni, faculty, professionals, friends, and family gathered in the University Student Union Ballroom for hors d’oeuvres, music and good time.
ASCE Orange County Vice President Gary Gilbert, and Awards and Nomination Chair Joshua Nelson presented to the gathered guests to summarize the history of Civil Engineering and ASCE. In addition, the story of why it took 10 years to finally get the plaques at the three Orange County schools was entertaining.

After the presentations concluded, the unveiling ceremony was held at the Vivian Engineering Center. Joshua Nelson and the ASCE CSULB Student Chapter Co-Presidents Jacob Heinrich and Charlynne Adones unveiled the plaque.
Members of student teams for concrete canoe, steel bridge, and other student organizations had booths on display in the VEC courtyard. The plaque is located near the Civil Engineering Office at the entrance of the VEC building.
