Laikipia Assessment Trip 1

The Kenya water team was busy this spring with two assessment trips to the Sukutan community to collect information and test soil and water samples in order to determine a viable solution to their water concerns.

The Feasibility Study confirmed the viability of several water supply options beyond Sukutan’s initial proposal. The trip also founded relationships with political, regulatory, and hydrogeological specialists in Laikipia’s capital, Nanyuki and with members of the Sukutan community. The Assessment resulted in a comprehensive water quality profile of the region, a 2-foot contour survey for future rain water pan design, and a baseline assessment from which to quantify health improvements.

Implementation for the Sukutan solution is anticipated in 2013. The team welcomes indiviuals who wish to participate in the project. For more information please contact Gayla Flecher [email protected], the Kenya  Technical Lead.
