2016-2017 ASCE OC Mentorship Program End-of Year Banquet

By: Martin Yan Xian

The mentorship program end of year banquet took place on August 10th, 2017, at Golden State Water Company Anaheim office, and majority of mentors and protégés showed up to the event. To start the banquet, current chair Melissa tested members about how much they remembered the past events, with questions like “What type of food did we eat during the Mid-Year Check-In?” Winners were also awarded with gift cards! During dinner, a speaker panel was held, where two mentors and protégés shared their experience with the mentorship program, and discussed the questions including “Why did you join the program and how has the program affected your professional growth,” and “How would you improve and maintain your relationship with your mentor/protégé after the program is over.” According to the panel, mentors and protégés had very positive feedback about the program and were satisfied with their growth out of it as well.

In the end, incoming chair Risa announced a few upcoming YMF events and handed out certificates to mentors and protégés. With best wishes, we look forward to next year’s program and hope it will continue to make ASCE a better organization and bring civil engineers from different generations together.
