Sacramento Legislative Fly-In Wrap-Up March 8, 2011

On Tuesday March 8, 2011, thirty-five Region 9 ASCE members and national President Elect Andrew Herman participated in the Sacramento Legislative Day Event "Infrastructure is the Foundation to Economic Recovery". Four Orange County members participated including Mojgan Hashemi, Clay Tanaka, Muhammad Ataya and Jeannette Lindemann.

The day started with training on discussion points when meeting with legislators. Some of the general discussion points included basic information about ASCE regarding its membership at the society and region levels such as the number of general members that are private or public employees and how discipline-diverse the group is. The participants were also provided information to share with the legislators regarding the support of Senate Bill 907-Master Plan for Infrastructure Financing and Development Commission and SB 571-Master Plan for Financing and Developing Water Resources. The group was split into smaller groups of two or three for meetings with legislators where the majority of members had meetings with their local representatives. Most groups had 6 meetings setup for the day.

The trip was a rewarding experience for the Orange County members. If you are interested in finding out more about the trip or how you can be involved next year, please join us at the next Government Affairs Committee meeting on April 13th from noon to 1 p.m.
