March 18th Seminar on Storm Drain Design and Construction
The Continuing Education Committee held its first seminar of 2011 on Friday March 18th on Storm Drain Design and Construction. We would like to thank Irvine Ranch Water District for hosting our event at their beautiful facility. We would also like to thank ARC printing formerly OCB Reprographics for sponsoring the handouts to all attendees and Orange County Public Works for heavily promoting the event. The seminar was a great success, as we had 70 people in attendance! Registration feesresulted in nearly $3, 000, which will be used to support student scholarships.
We want to recognize our excellent presenters, Phillip Jones, P.E., BrucePhillips, P.E., and Dave Sorem, P.E. The presenters were successful in relaying valuable information to the audience. The seminar provided attendees with a broad understanding of the storm drain design workflow, from the legislative and engineering viewpoints and concluded with a discussion of construction challenges and common design pitfalls. Attendees were given resources for further research that should assist them in their design.
