Branch Luncheon Flyer for August 1986 field trip to Union Oil Company Research Center in Brea

Thursday, August 7, 1986

3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. Tour through the Union Oil Co. Research Center - Northeast corner of Valencia and Imperial Highway - Brea

5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Steak barbeque at the A.C. Rubel or later Park (see map) .

Our August meeting will be the Annual Barbeque and Field Trip. As we did last year we have available the Union Oil Company's "Rubel Park" picnic grounds. This is in a small canyon, just north of Lambert-Carbon Canyon Road, and west of Valencia. There will be a sign directing you at the proper turnoff. Recreation facilities, such as horseshoes, volleyball, baseball, etc., are available or you can sit down under a tree with a brew and kick back.

The dinner will be a Santa Maria style BBQ with steak, beans, salad, and french bread and all prepared by Hal Purdy, ASCE Santa Barbara. Hal is famous for his western style BBQ's and has been responsible for dozens of past ASCE functions. Refreshments are draft beer, soft drinks, and coffee. If you want anything else, bring it for yourself.

The field trip will be at the Unocal Research Center, 376 S. Valencia Avenue (corner of Imperial Highway), Brea, California. Parking is available in the main lot adjacent to Imperial Highway. There will be a short film explaining the use and purpose of the Center. This will be followed by a tour of the facility. Included will be the computer center,- rock and metal labs, engine testing lab, and a mini refinery testing new labs, engine testing lab, and a mini refinery testing new processes. We will be able to ask questions and discuss new asphaltic products, gasoline and anything else petroleum.
