On February 15, 2014, ASCE Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino/Riverside YMF held the 20th Annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition for the high school students at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Over 40 teams from 27 different high schools participated in this event. The competition provides an opportunity to emphasize the benefits of pursing a higher education while exposing local high school students to a college campus and promoting the engineering profession. The students were given a tour of the campus and were able test the strength of their popsicle stick bridge in a testing lab. This event provided an opportunity for students to be innovative on how to design and construct a popsicle stick bridge within the required constraints. The students were also required to create a display board, write a technical report and do a presentation to a panel of judges. The top three overall schools won a scholarship of $500, $300, $200, respectively and various raffle prizes were given out, thanks to our wonderful sponsors. PSBC 2014 was a wonderful success thanks to many of the volunteers from CSUN ASCE, OC, LA, SB/Riverside YMFs.
