ASCE OC YMF – La Pata Technical Tour

By: Sam Tieu

ASCE OC YMF in collaboration with the County of Orange hosted the La Pata Extension Improvements technical tour on May 29, 2015.  The tour gave attendees an insight on the complicated process of managing a $73 million project that involves numerous stakeholders.  Roughly over 15 people experienced an engineering marvel that includes different technical fields like: road widening, structural bridge improvements, complex drainage systems and treatment, land development, utility relocation, and archeological monitoring.

The tour started with Hugo Pineda, Project Manager, presenting a brief about the different project phases of La Pata Extension Improvements.  After attendees introduced themselves, people ventured into the project site geared with hard hats and safety vest.

One of the highlights of the tour was a falconer showcasing his falcons and their abilities to drive away nuisance birds.

With the new construction of La Pata Extension Improvements, south county residents will be able to enjoy direct local connections between communities of: San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Rancho Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch, and Las Flores.
