ASCE OC Community Service

Holiday Dinner Meal Service at the Illumination Foundation Emergency House

By Evelyn Tran | Community Service Co-Chair

On November 15th, volunteers from ASCE OC came together to host a holiday dinner meal service at the Theriault House in Stanton. Theriault House is an Emergency House that offers a place for homeless families with children to stay up to three months, while staff helps families look for permanent housing. In addition, Illumination Foundation staff also provide services such as mental health services that the families may need.

Since Thanksgiving is just around the corner, the food at the dinner meal service included typical Thanksgiving food such as turkey, ham, and mashed potatoes. For dessert, pecan pies and pumpkin pies were served. Volunteers helped set up tables with trays of food and ate with the families. Volunteers bonded at the end of the dinner meal service with the families through multiple rounds of bingo. Prizes included gift cards and packs of candies.

The event helped remind us to be thankful for what we have and to continue to help those that are less fortunate than we are. By being able to share laughter and stories with one another during dinner, we are one step closer to making the world a warmer place.

We hope that you can join us during our next community service event. We wish you a happy festive season with friends and family.
