ASCE OC T&DI invited Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) to share the latest agencies’ updates in March and April of this year. Both events provided networking opportunities for everyone during the breakout room session. As part of the benefits of sponsoring the event, sponsors got to join the speaker in separate sponsors’ breakout rooms.

The Institute invited Ernesto Chaves, Deputy Executive Officer of Metro, to speak for the first virtual presentation of 2022 on March 8th. There were almost 50 participants during the virtual presentation. HNTB and EMI were the sponsors for this event. Mr. Ernesto covered multiple topics relating to road and highway projects including:

  • Multiple Goals for roads and highways
  • Portfolio of highway projects
  • Highway program fund eligibility updates
  • Intelligent transportation systems (its)
  • SB 743/VMT Mitigation program and timeline
  • Upcoming opportunities

Mr. Ernesto went further and discussed the goals for road and highway projects. The goals include congestion management, active transportation, goods movement, public health, and reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and equity.
