President's Message - It’s Engineers Week - What are You Doing?

The week of February 16-22, 2014 is Engineers Week, also known as EWeek. I wanted to learn more about it so I did a little research. I found that this is a national event dedicated to raising public awareness of the contributions that engineers make which improve our quality of life and motivate younger generations to pursue engineering careers.

TTG - January Luncheon

ASCE Orange County's Transportation Technical Group (TTG) hosted its first program of 2014 at UCI on Tuesday, January 14th with a presentation by Diaa Yassin (Caltrans District 7 Project Manager) with support from Vanessa Barrientos (Hill International, Community Outreach Consultant) and Maria Raptis (Caltrans District 7 Public Information Officer) on the Caltrans Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) South Corridor Improvement Projects.

CSULB Alumni Event

On Sunday, January 19, 2014 ASCE met up with CSULB Civil Engineering Alumni for a round of golf. Participants met at the Recreation Golf Course in Long Beach. After making their way through 9-holes of golf, the alumni and students retired to Claire’s at the Long Beach Museum of Art for brunch with a side of networking.

Law and CE News - Right to Repair Act
By
Controversy and compromise gave birth to the Right to Repair Act (the Act) in 2002. After much debate between plaintiffs’ attorneys and builders, the California Legislature enacted the Act to provide builders with the right to inspect and repair construction defects before a homeowner could engage in litigation against the builder. The Act also imposed a complex set of timelines and prerequisites for plaintiffs to satisfy prior to suing builders.
