91 Express Lanes Pavement Rehabilitation and CMS Replacement
- Project Location:
91 Express Lanes from SR55 east to the Orange/Riverside County line, both eastbound and westbound lanes
- Project Description:
The project will replace the existing distressed pavement within the 91 Express Lanes facility of State Route 91 from Tustin Ave to the Orange County Line and the County Line to west of Green River Road in Riverside County. In addition to the pavement work six Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will be upgraded to LED technology with new sign structures
- Project Justification:
The 91 Express Lanes are in the middle of SR91 which is a high density freeway. To maximize productivity and impact traffic the least on SR91 the work was executed via 55/56 hour weekend closures. Since there are no intermediate ingress or egress areas on the Express Lanes the full 10 miles of the Express Lanes in the working direction was closed along with the general purpose lane #1 in the immediately adjacent paving area.
- Special Circumstances:
Close coordination with the adjacent Riverside County SR91 Improvement Project was necessary to avoid closely spaced closures
- Project Attachments:
No other documentation
- Award Citation::
The 91 Express Pavement Rehab and CMS replacement project demonstrated proactive partnership with adjacent construction contractors and between Caltrans Districts 8 & 12 Traffic Management, required to mitigate traffic congestion on SR91 general purpose lanes.
- Suggested Award Summary:
The 91 Express Pavement Rehab and CMS replacement project demonstrated proactive partnership with adjacent construction contractors and between Caltrans Districts 8 & 12 Traffic Management, required to mitigate traffic congestion on SR91 general purpose lanes. The 91 Express Lanes operation and associated revenues were impacted the least due to close coordination with the construction contractor.
