Additional Information

Students at CSUF ASCE are very happy with Dr. Ghosh for his role as the ASCE advisor and a research mentor, instructor in the CEE department. He is the second longest serving ASCE faculty advisor after me ( I served for 4 years) at CSUF in the past 15 years. He has done outstanding job as the faculty advisor. As the past award recipient, I can say tat this award will motivate him to excel his role as the faculty mentor/advisor in future as well.

Name:
Pratanu Ghosh

Yes
Company:

California State University, Fullerton

Supervisor:
Education:

Ph.D. Civil Engineering, University of Utah

Experience:

Assistant Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Cal State Fullerton
08/2011~ Present
At this position he is making a significant contribution to the department and university by mentoring ,many local and international students successfully.

Comments:

Dr. Ghosh is working hard to elevate the standard for CSUF student chapter. In the past 2 years, under his mentorship, ASCE CSUF chapter had made a significant achievements - one among these is receiving Outstanding Chapter - honorary mention from the national ASCE. Working as the faculty advisor of ASCE chapter for 4 years, I know how hard it is to make to this level. I received faculty advisor of the year - honorary mention for 2 years. But I was not able to help students bring the chapter annual report to the standard of chapter award - honorary mention. Moreover, CSUF ASCE student chapter is growing significantly during his advisorship.

Contribution to the Profession:

ASCE Faculty Advisor at CSU Fullerton since 2013.  As a mentor , he had provided lectures for concrete canoe competition to students for their PSWC student competitions, reviewed annual reports for ASCE , continuously monitored students projects and participated in PSWC for last two years to encourage the students of ACSE CSUF Chapter. He had also arranged several guest speakers for ASCE general meeting to provide students exposure of industry expectation and real world engineering projects.  In addition, he arranged donation of materials and other resources from several local and national companies for student projects and competitions. Last year, he coordinated a prestigious event of Orange County 150th ASCE Anniversary celebration and I invited all faculty members and our Dean to attend the event in CSUF. ASCE Orange county chapter gave CSUF a plaque as part of their celebration. Last year, under his supervision, CSUF ASCE student chapter obtained certification of commendation (top 15%) on the basis of their annual report.

Civic:

He has been continuously involved in mentoring students and contributing in their success. One example that is - his student (research) mentee received the 2nd place in the California State University System-wide Research Competition under Engineering and Computer Science Category.

Suggested Award Summary:

Dr. Ghosh is an assistant professor of civil engineering and ASCE Faculty Advisor at CSU Fullerton. He is cited by CSUF civil engineering students as one of the most effective instructor, motivating mentor, and outstanding researcher. He coordinated the ASCE Orange County 150th ASCE Anniversary celebration event. Under his supervision, CSUF ASCE student chapter obtained certification of commendation from ASCE Headquarter. He also arranges guest speakers for ASCE general meeting to provide students exposure to industry expectation and real world engineering projects.  In addition, he arranges donation of materials and other resources from several local and national companies for student projects and competitions.
