ASCE is for All Civil Engineers
There are many great organizations out there for Civil Engineers, and I
continue to affiliate with several; but there’s something about ASCE that has always attracted my attention. As many, I’ve always viewed ASCE as the
primary umbrella organization for our profession. The name “American Society of Civil Engineers” says it all. And ASCE continues to extend abroad
to our fellow colleagues around the world.
Another attraction for me is that ASCE strongly supports infrastructure while remaining unbiased
towards government and private practice, and any other interest except for civil engineering. ASCE
simply represents all of us Civil Engineers with our common goal to improve the quality of life. I don’t know of another organization within our profession that does only this.
Over the years ASCE has contributed significantly towards my development as a Civil Engineer, and I
hope it has for you as well. If you haven’t taken advantage of what ASCE has to offer, I strongly
recommend you do so. Whether your need is business development, leadership, a specific technical skill
, or something else; ASCE most likely has it, and you’ll probably find it within the Orange County Branch.
Our award-winning Branch is over 1,350 members strong, and much has changed over the last several
years. The most exciting development to me is the fact that ASCE is finally getting on the forefront of
infrastructure issues. We’re now in front of our legislator’s and we’re being asked by the media and other public groups to weigh in on infrastructure issues.
Your ASCE Orange County Branch contributed significantly to this achievement and others under the
leadership of our outgoing President, Yazdan Emrani, P.E. Yaz gave a great summary of the OC Branch
accomplishments this past year in his final President’s article last month. If you missed it, you can view it under the “Newsletter” section of this website.
I’m truly honored to have the opportunity to serve as your President for the 2007- 2008 year, and I
pledge to maintain the high standards and leadership that this Branch has developed. One of our Past
Presidents, John Hogan, P.E., once stated that “this Branch basically runs itself.” Although I’ve got
large shoes to fill, and much effort planned to continue the success of this organization, I couldn’t agree
more with John. The tremendous effort from countless past Board and Committee members has established a smooth running machine.
